Microsoft Outlook 2007 POP3 email setup

Overview

This document will help you to configure your Microsoft Outlook 2007 e-mail client to work with the FreedomNet Solutions e-mail system.

In order to use Outlook with your FreedomNet Solutions e-mail account you should take the following steps:

  • Browse to http://officeupdate.microsoft.com
  • Click on "Check for updates" before you configure your client to make sure you have the latest updates for your version of Outlook.
    • Problems have been noted with some older releases of Outlook with SSL that have been corrected with the latest service pack downloads from Microsoft.
    • Step 1: Create your Account (Part 1)

      • Open Outlook
      • Select the "Tools" pulldown menu and select "Account Settings".

      Step 2: Create your Account (Part 2)

      • Select "New" in the Email Accounts window.

      Step 3: Choose E-mail Service

      • Select "Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP" for the E-mail service.
      • Click "Next."

      Step 4: Auto-Account Setup

      • Choose "Manually configure server settings or additional server types"
      • Click "Next".

      Step 5: Choose E-Mail Service

      • Choose "Internet E-mail".
      • Click "Next".

      Step 6: Internet E-mail Settings

      • Enter in the following information:
        • Your Name: Your Name as you want it to be displayed in outgoing emails.
        • E-mail Address: Your FreedomNet E-mail Address
        • Incoming mail Server (POP3): type: fnw.us
        • Outgoing mail Server (SMTP): type: fnw.us
        • User Name: Your FreedomNet email address
        • Password: Your FreedomNet password
      • Leave the "Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" unchecked.
      • Click on More Settings.

      Step 7: Outgoing Server

      • Choose the tab on top labeled "Outgoing Server".
      • Choose "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication".
      • Choose "Log on to incoming mail server before sending mail".
      • Choose the tab on top labeled "Advanced".

      Step 8: Advanced Settings

      • Choose "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)".
      • For "Use the following type of encrypted connection", Choose "SSL".
      • After the above step is completed, change the "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" to 465.
      • Click "OK".
      • Click "Next".

      Step 9: Finished!

      • Congratulations, you are finished!
      • Click "Finished".
